Ik vond nog een foto in het archief van Jericho.
Deze dekhengst is ooit (1978)uit Frankrijk opgehaald door John van 't Schip.
Helaas heeft hij niet voor nakomelingen kunnen zorgen, hij was steriel.



Koetsier John van 't Schip
Jericho was hier 3 of 4 jaar oud.
Hij gooit zich mooi in het tuig, vind je niet?

De koets is een Barouchette of Landratswagen.
Het is geen Victoria omdat er deurtjes in zitten.
Toevallig hebben we er zelf ook 1tje.

Wat is het een schitterende koets geworden zeg.

Echt goed dat de oude koetsen worden opgeknapt. Het zou kapitaalvernietiging zijn om ze weg te laten roesten...

Mooi geworden zeg. Hoe oud is deze koets?
de foto van Jericho is imposant, dat 'ie in zwart/wit is vergroot het effect ook nog eens.

Die koets is van omstreeks 1900.
Vorig jaar nog een prijs mee gewonnen bij een koetsenrit "Schoonste geheel", zo heet dat.
Rijdt heerlijk, makkelijk in/uitstappen.
Rubber om de wielen dus lekker rustig rijden.
De bok kan ook nog weggeklapt worden, dan wordt er gemend vanuit de koets.

Je gelooft het nooit, maar wij zijn Jericho ook tegengekomen.
Niet irl natuurlijk :) maar wel in het boek "Fryske Hynder". Daar staat op pagina 10 onderstaande foto, met als bijschrift : Merens-hengst 'Jericho'.
Verder staat er jammer genoeg niet veel meer bij over Merensen, alleen wordt ernaar verwezen als voorbeeld van het "niet zo luxe" inlandse koudbloed, genre Merens en Fell en Döle pony.
Maar toch leuk dat die foto erin staat.
